The longest university occupation in Finland ends with a performance!

Occupants getting ready for the performance!

The longest university occupation in the history of Finland has ended on a very positive note, and culminates in a performance at 14:00 in Yliopistonkatu (in the pedestrian walk). During the performance we will meet with political decision-makers. Welcome!

Education strike Turku ended the successful occupation after 11 days, making it the longest university occupation in Finland so far. Debates, meetings and all sorts of other programme has been organised during the week and a half long occupation. More than a hundred people have participated, in addition to which the number of people reached through our various networks has been doubled many times over. Both staff and students at the university have been very positive towards the occupation.

The education strike movement emerged in the beginning of the Autumn as a result of widespread frustration with the education sector cuts and the austerity politics of the government. In addition to the occupation in Turku, also Helsinki, Tampere and Jyväskylä have had occupations the past Autumn.

Education strike Turku will also take part in the universities' fundraising campaigns, by donating 1 euro each to Turun yliopisto and Åbo Akademi. The wish of Education strike Turku is that the money will go to innovations and top project funding.

Welcome to the performance at 2 pm - and stay tuned for more!
